Last week, members of the MacLean International team swapped desks for litter pickers as we took part in a community clean-up around the industrial estate in Aberdeen where our office is based. Armed with black bags, hi-vis vests, gloves and plenty of enthusiasm, our staff spent time helping to tidy the local area and do our bit to improve the environment around us.
While collecting litter, it was striking to see just how much discarded plastic, packaging, cans, bottles and other recyclable materials had been left behind. So much of what we picked up could have been responsibly recycled rather than ending up in hedgerows, pavements and green spaces.
Aligning with our company ESG policy goals, it also served as an important reminder that small individual actions — whether that’s recycling properly, reducing unnecessary waste or simply taking litter home — can collectively make a huge difference to our environment and local communities.

It was a fantastic team effort and a great reminder that it makes a real difference when people come together with a shared purpose. We even had a guest appearance from guide dog puppy in training Pluto, who was in charge of replenishing rubbish bags – although he was also caught lying down on the job!
Amongst the usual litter, we also uncovered some slightly more unusual finds, including a car bonnet, supermarket basket and even a miniature Christmas tree. Safe to say: those weren’t on our bingo card for the day!

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and gave their time to support the initiative — your efforts are very much appreciated. MacLean International is proud to play a small part in keeping our local community cleaner, greener and a little brighter.
