MacLean International Supports Engineers of the Future

Securing future industry talent is an ongoing commitment at MacLean International, and this year, we are proudly supporting the next generation of engineers from Dundee & Angus College.

Kalvin Lawrence and Levi Hill were the proud recipients of the Engineering Prize and Future Engineers Student of the Year awards, sponsored by MacLean, and they recently visited our Aberdeen branch for a “lunch and learn” session. Together with our suppliers, we gave these young men a broader perspective on the industry and an insight into the collaborative nature of what we do. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect, share knowledge, and hopefully inspire the next steps in their careers.

The two recipients and Joe Spink, Development Officer from the college, joined our team, together with Charles Guthrie from Bahco and Jim McIntosh from Norbar for a behind-the-scenes look at our operations, including a tour of the facility and hazardous area workshop where they learned about our junction box assembly processes.

Levi has completed his Future Engineers level 4 course, and Kalvin has recently completed his NC Engineering level 5 course, having completed the entry level course in 2025. Joe Spink, Development Officer for the college, commented, “The lads were really inspired by their visit to MacLean, and I am hopeful that they will now progress on to apprenticeship positions”.

Andy Gibson, Business Development Manager for MacLean International, added, “Both young men were extremely impressive with a clear passion for engineering. They will undoubtedly be an asset to any company going forward with their positive attitude and confidence”.

To honour this significant achievement and support their continued development, both students will be presented with Bahco tool kits and Norbar torque wrenches at their official prizegiving in May.

About Dundee & Angus College

The Future Engineers Level 4 course at Dundee & Angus College is a full-time, 32-week program, aimed at building practical skills in engineering and motor vehicles. It boosts employability, teamwork, and technical skills. The course aims to prepare students for a career in engineering or advanced training, focusing on practical skills, communications, and employability skills. It acts as a foundation for furthering studies in SVQ, NC, or HNC programs in engineering disciplines.

The NC Engineering SCQF Level 5 course is a 32-week, full-time course. This program provides a foundation in engineering principles, combining theoretical knowledge with practical workshop skills to prepare students for apprenticeships, further education (Level 6), or employment.
